O-Pee-Chee 91-92

After a very successful 90-91 series, O-Pee-Chee decided to follow the same formula for its 91-92 series. They start off the set with three Lafleur tribute cards, similar to previous years' Gretzky highlight cards, and continue on with few changes throughout their, once again, 528 card set. Since it is a very similar set to the previous years', it has the same problem--too many close-up, non-action shots. And once again the design features a hockey stick and the team colour, though this time they add the team logo to the front of the card and a few extra colours to the back of it. I still think this is a pretty classy set, but like every 91-92 set, it is just not quite as good the 90-91 set.

Five of my favorites:

#378 - Esa Tikkanen - This is so much more exciting than a close-up of a guy's face.

#501 - Perry Anderson - If you have to pose for a photo, you might as well do it right.

#513 - Valeri Kamensky - 91-92 O-Pee-Chee doesn't have all the Russian players in the regular set like 90-91 did. This card makes me wish that they did.

#526 - Tampa Bay Lightning - I was really excited about getting to see this team when I first got this card. I was just as excited for the Sharks and Senators as well. The Sharks had a pretty sad roster back then.

#412 - New York Islanders - It's hard to go wrong with team cards.
